Track45 Mixolydian Example – This time we treat a sudden out of key chord change the “outside” way.
Adding A-flats (arrows) in bar 3 pushes the melody away from the key of C.
Those 2 flats make that measure sound more like an “outsider” than the Lydian Dominant version.
I know the difference is subtle but when composing or improvising those kinds of choices make you sound “music-wise”.
Neither example (track 44 or 45) should be regarded as right or wrong, it depends what you prefer.
